Dixie es periodista y abogada costarricense, pero dice que ante todo es orgullosamente guanacasteca. Nació en San José pero pasó toda su niñez y adolescencia en Santa Ana de Belén de Carrillo, Guanacaste.
Como muchos en Costa Rica, viajó a la capital, San José, para estudiar una carrera universitaria, pero nunca pensó que sus pasos la llevarían luego más al norte.
Dixie ha trabajado como periodista durante casi 20 años. Tiene experiencia en reporteo, escritura y edición de noticias tanto en inglés como en español, aunque prefiere hacerlo en este último idioma.
En los Estados Unidos, ella ha trabajado como periodista independiente para Telemundo Chicago, CNN en Español Radio,Hispanic Information & Telecomunications Network y las publicaciones en español del Chicago Tribune Hoy y Padres, entre otros.
En Costa Rica, entre 1988 y 2000, Dixie trabajó para el periódico La Nación, el más grande e importante del país. Allí ella se desempeñó como reportera, coeditora de temas nacionales y editora de temas de Sociedad y Jurídicos.
Aunque durante este tiempo ella tuvo contacto prácticamente con todo tipo de noticias, en el país fue reconocida principalmente por su cobertura de temas legales y constitucionales.
Dixie es una abogada, miembro activa del Colegio de Abogados de Costa Rica, de la Asociación de Periodistas Hispanos residentes en los Estados Unidos (NAHJ) y del grupo de reporteros y editores (IRE).
En los Estados Unidos, obtuvo una maestría en periodismo, de la Universidad de Missouri-Columbia y en Costa Rica, una licenciatura y bachillerato en Derecho y un bachillerato en periodismo, todos de la Universidad de Costa Rica.
Está casada con Neal Caauwe y tiene dos hijos, Neal y Sara.

Bilingual Journalist, Costa Rican lawyer, but mostly a very proud “guanacasteca”. Although she was born in San Jose, she spent her childhood and youth in Santa Ana de Belén, Carrillo, a rural and very poor town in Guanacaste.
As many Costa Ricans do, she moved to the capital city, San José, to pursue her college education; but she never imagined she would end up in the United States.
Dixie has worked as a journalist for 20 years, in a variety of roles with increased responsibility. She has experience in reporting, writing and editing in both English and Spanish as well as in directing and supervising people involved in news coverage.
In the United States, she has worked as a freelancer for Telemundo Chicago (the Spanish TV Station of NBC), CNN En Español Radio,Hispanic Information & Telecomunications Network and Chicago Tribune Spanish publications Hoy and Padres, among others.
In Costa Rica, from 1988 to 2000, Dixie worked for La Nación, the largest Costa Rican newspaper. There, she served as a reporter, co-editor and news editor. During this time, she had experience with a vast array of stories, but she was mostly known for covering the legal, constitutional and judicial issues of the country.
Dixie is a member of the Costa Rican Bar Association, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) and Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE).
She also holds as MA in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a B.A. in journalism from the University of Costa Rica.
She is married to Neal Caauwe and the mother of Neal and Sara.
